It encompasses a broad range of techniques that enable computers to learn from and make inferences based on data without being explicitly programmed for specific tasks. With the integration of machine-learning models into healthcare practices, we aimed to assess whether the ND could reliably be predicted from clinical disease trajectories. For this, we established a workflow to train a gated recurrent unit (GRU-D) that is particularly developed to work with time-series data with missing values. This model could reliably diagnose most disorders for which we had a higher number of donors (Extended Data Fig. 5a).
